01Anatomy of an edit

Every request is a layer.

Pull the edit apart and see what each part of the request does. Put it back together and it becomes the video.

02Two services, one flow

Fewer operations. More direction.

You say what you want to say. Editor handles cutting and finishing; Motion turns parts of your speech into scenes.

04How it works

The site teaches. Your computer edits.

Ghost Edith runs as a skill on your computer, built on the open-source editonny engine. This site holds your account and builds requests; it doesn't receive or edit videos.

  1. Copy the install request

It points your agent to the open, free repository on GitHub. Nothing to download by hand.

  2. Paste it into your agent

In Claude Code or Codex. The agent clones, installs, and verifies everything, then asks you to restart.

  3. Talk to your agent

Call $editonny or /editonny, point to your video folder and ask. You review a sample before the full video.

You'll need

Compatible AI agent
Codex or Claude Code
Python
3.9 or later
uv
Python manager
FFmpeg and ffprobe
in the terminal
Node.js and npx
22.13+ or 24+

The installer sets up the engine dependencies. System tools must be available in the terminal.

Third-party costs

  • Ghost Edith is free and runs on an open-source engine. No subscription, no paid plan.
  • Your AI agent may require its own subscription, purchased separately.
  • Transcription and rendering run on your machine. No video is sent through this site.

06Installation guide

From zero to your first request.

  1. Open your agent

Open Claude Code or Codex in any folder. There is nothing to download or unzip.

  2. Paste the install request

Your agent fetches the skill from GitHub, installs or updates it globally, prepares the environment, and validates it in Claude Code and Codex. End to end, on its own.

    INSTALL AND UPDATE REQUEST

Works for a first install and for updates. Paste it into Claude Code or Codex; the link inside points your agent to the repository:

Install or update the editonny skill for Codex and Claude Code from https://github.com/soumatheusgomes/editonny. Clone the latest version into a temporary folder; I won't download anything myself. Read skills/editonny/SKILL.md and follow its complete setup procedure. If editonny is already installed, compare versions, summarize what changes, and update it through its existing delivery method: the repository installer for a shared installation (it preserves my settings and backs up the previous copy) or the host's updater for a managed plugin. Prepare the compatible local tools, locked engine, pinned renderer and browser, default transcription model, local OCR for caption checks, and bundled media before the first edit. Verify with diagnostics and a synthetic sample, report anything pending, remove the temporary clone, and tell me when to restart my agent. Ask before paid services or sending my media.
No terminal commands. If the agent needs anything, it asks first.
  3. Restart your agent

Close and reopen it so it discovers the skill. Paste the same request whenever you want to update.

  4. Make your first request

Open a new conversation and call /editonny in Claude Code or $editonny in Codex. Point to your video folder and ask for a sample.

Yes. Ghost Edith is free and runs on editonny, an open-source engine with no paid plan. Your account only opens the panel and the request builder; nothing is uploaded or edited in the browser. Transcription and rendering run on your machine; your AI agent follows its provider's terms and may require its own subscription.
Listen for clipped words, check caption accuracy, and see whether framing keeps the subject. Ask for changes before finishing everything.
Run python3 install.py --target codex or python3 install.py --target claude, then start a new conversation. Registration is local: it does not sync tools or files with cloud sessions or your phone.
The installer registers one copy at ~/.local/share/editonny, with links at ~/.agents/skills/editonny for Codex and ~/.claude/skills/editonny for Claude Code. Choose one installation method.
Run claude --plugin-dir "/path/to/editonny" to load this checkout for one session, then invoke /editonny:editonny. The standalone skill uses /editonny; avoid loading both at once. Video tools and the Python environment are still required.
The skill checks GitHub on each use and asks before applying updates. After acceptance, run the installer from the new checkout and repeat complete setup checks. The previous version moves to ~/.local/share/editonny-backups/ and installation .env files are preserved. Managed plugins use their host's updater. An unavailable update check does not block a working local installation. Keep footage and projects outside the skill folder, and check the update before deleting any backup.
Run python3 install.py --target both --uninstall. Add --dry-run to see the destinations first. Only the agent links are removed; the shared package, settings, backups, videos, and projects stay.
Scenes show their source format, usually vertical. The AI adapts and checks framing when your video has another aspect ratio. A visual reference does not guarantee an identical render without review.
